LFW – Fashion East A/W 2013 show
Fashion East has taken to London Fashion Week again; this non-profit organisation was founded by Lulu Kennedy. It gives emerging designers a platform to launch their own labels. This year, Fashion East introduces us to Clair Barrow, Ryan Lo and Ashley Williams. After this innovative show, we don’t think this will be the last time you will be hearing those names.
Clair Barrow’s looks took on a distressed grunge feel to start the show, with mesh jumpers and oversized knitwear. A model dressed in a Havisham-style wedding gown really captured the audience’s attention. Models carried unusual props such as a fish and children’s doll, which emphasised the creative nature of the designer and the originality of the designs.
Ryan Lo’s designs contrasted greatly to the first set we saw. These looks appeared to be inspired by 80s dance wear and they really gave the collection a colour pop. A particular piece that stood out was a floor-length baby blue coat. It seems fur will be sticking around for another season.
We were then catapulted to the 60s by Ashley Williams’ designs, which consisted of oversized collars and bright shift dresses. There was an introduction of unusual prints such as shift dresses with Elvis’ face on it, creating youthful, fun pieces. Williams’ looks were a vibrant end to a captivating fashion show.
Despite all the designers having had different inspirations and visions, the collections fitted well together and it was another successful show for Fashion East.
