University of Westminster graduate runway show 2015
It was a late sunny afternoon on the 20th May, when the University of Westminster saw a huge fashionable crowd gathering in front of its doors. However, it was not a university open day or a final exam that attracted them, but the annual Graduate Fashion Show.
The BA (Hons) fashion design students were the first to showcase their collections, starting off the 2015 graduate fashion season.
Each collection was marginally different from the one before as every young designer projected a unique piece of their own vision onto their clothes. Brave designs and the sharp ambition in their creations came as no surprise since all of those young students have already worked for a number of renowned international brands, including the likes of Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen and Max Mara, to name but a few.
While most of them had gone for very colourful and fun outfits, there were still the occasional monochromes and even khaki shades seen. What all of the designs had in common was the unmatched boldness of young, ambitious talent – most of the designers opted for fuller silhouettes, blurring the lines of the figure underneath it: think heavy fabrics and oversized coats, and a lot of them.
One thing is for sure, these fashion graduates have turned their backs on minimalism and gone for the more is more approach, with emphasis on statement outerwear and shameless bright patterns.
