Belgrade FW Showcase spring/summer 2017 collection presentation for LFWLondon Fashion Week SS17
To celebrate its 20th anniversary Belgrade fashion week showcased the very best of Serbian design, talent and quality at Freemasons’ Hall in London. As the first fashion week in Eastern Europe, launched in 1966, it is considered to be one of the leading fashion events in the region, and the designs did not disappoint.
Supporting and investing in young talents, the showcase featured the creations of around 20 fashion and accessories designers, presenting the Belgrade fashion scene through different innovative approaches.
Each designer managed to transform classic styles into original, artistic garments through their use of textures, tailoring and colour palettes. Annderstand’s designs which featured neutral tones of cream, black and navy and simple, elegant tailoring, were juxtaposed against Billie Jacobina. Her eclectic collection showed a magical fusion between sea life and moroccan pattern, using contrasting materials and techniques including foils, screen printing, sequins and vibrantly coloured fur.Han Wen’s collection was designed with the theme of women empowerment. This was conveyed through the use of elegant feminine shapes and colours detailed with harsh metal rings and studs used to hold together sections of fabric. The overall effect of this gave a strong, edgy appearance to the designs which correlated with Wen’s thesis; to express a defiant yet romantic female. There was a certain playfulness in a lot of the collections as seen through the choice of texture. From bold fishnet crop tops, to a rainmac jumpsuit, the designers were not afraid to utilize textures to add dimension to their designs. Ana ljubinkovic featured sickly sweet pastel pinks, mint greens and lemon yellows coupled with exaggerated cuts which gave her designs an almost cartoon-like quality. The diversity and originality of these collections is a testament to the skill and creativity of the designers expressing new ways of interpreting cultural heritage. It was a successful presentation of the fashion scene in Belgrave, highlighting Serbian heritage which was a significant source of inspiration for these designers.
