Girls just wanna have fun: it’s summer
As Cindi Lauper once pointed out in her iconic pop record, girls just wanna have fun! And this is never truer than in summer. As the warmest months of the year approach, now is a good time to start thinking about all the fun you can have in the sun. Here is a look at some of the top activities for you and the girlies to get stuck into this summer.
A garden party
The longer summer evenings are the perfect excuse to round up a group of friends and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the garden: the great outdoors can put some distance between you and the many modern interruptions that we have today, like mobile phones and tablets. Get a good BBQ going, string some fairy lights up, chill a couple of bottles of wine, put some tunes on, and there you have it – the perfect setting for a lazy summer evening.
Strike it lucky
Spring may traditionally be the time for horse racing in the UK but there’s still plenty going on in summer, with meetings taking place across the country throughout June and July.
If done responsibly, gambling can be fun and could even leave you with a bit more money than you started with, (although the opposite is also quite true). And these days, horse racing is as much about having a good day out as it is about putting on a bet. Take a break
Nothing says a girlie get away like a beach break. As well as lazy hours whiled away lounging on the beach, you could also try a few beach-based sports, like sand running, volleyball or beach football. If you do go to the beach, always remember to take precautions from the sun, with skin cancer rates reaching shocking levels in the UK.
There is plenty of coastline to choose from in the UK, or you could try further afield if you’ve got the time. The beaches in the French Riviera are famous for their beautiful vistas and fine weather. Dubai, meanwhile, is a destination that has a fast growing reputation for excellent hospitality. Despite being located in a desert, the area has some beautiful beaches and is famous for its luxurious accommodation, as well as boutiques, beauty spas and fascinating culture.
In Brazil, you can find some great coastal spots in Rio de Janeiro. As well as 80km of beach land, the city will have a festival atmosphere this year as the city plays host to the conclusion of the World Cup; things could be particularly lively if Brazil manage to get to the final. The celebrations could last all year – and beyond!
