Our top tips to save money this Christmas

Our top tips to save money this Christmas

Pinching the pennies this Christmas? Most of us spend more money during the festive period than we ever do in the year. It’s no wonder with the tempting prices on offer, the glorious foods we simply have to buy and cheesy jumpers that we wouldn’t dream of wearing at any other time. Here are our top tips on how to save some money this Christmas:

  1. Mix and Match

Paying an arm and a leg for a cup and some chocolates? Those elegantly put-together goodies may look impressive (and expensive!) but you can make the same for a fraction of the price. Pick a favourite mug and simply fill it with marshmallows or chocolate yourself. Attach a gift tag to add a personal touch and you may even have some chocolate left for yourself!

  1. Set a budget for each person to avoid impulse buys

How many times have you spotted something a loved one will definitely appreciate, only to come home to a bag full of things you’ve bought for them on your last shopping trip? An easy way to limit damage control to your wallet is to set a budget for each person you are planning to buy gifts for. Each time you buy them something, tally it off their budget.

  1. Bake your favourite treats instead of buying them

Whether it’s an indulgent trifle or delicious mince pies, why not have a go at making the festive treats yourself? Nothing beats the homemade touch, especially when it comes to food. If you’re worried about producing something edible, ask whoever’s coming to Christmas Dinner to bring a dish with them and you’ll have your own variety buffet without the price tag.

  1. Use any extra decorations to decorate the Christmas table

Splurged on the tinsel this Christmas? Don’t worry, it’s not just for decorating the Christmas tree. Why not add some sparkle to your table and chairs to really get everyone into the festive spirit? Any extra Christmas ornaments can instantly become table showstoppers.

  1. Label and pack away Christmas decorations/extras in a box

Find yourself starting from scratch every Christmas? Instead of spending a fortune every December, invest in a good storage box to keep all loose items that are only usable during the festive season. Wrap them securely to prevent any damage and next Christmas you’ll find yourself already prepared!
