It’s 22nd December and no matter where you look you will see a Christmas tree, dazzling in the window of every home, delighting in every store and illuminating public squares. But do not despair, for those who have waited until the festive week, here is the perfect guide to buying those essential decorations for whatever vibe you are going for this year. No longer must a tree just be baubles and tinsel, we have entered the era where shops offer the quirky and bizarre alongside the classic. So wrap up warm (or apparently this year lightly for the warmer weather), grab a bag and head straight to these shops to meet your decoration needs.

Liberty – Regent Street

For those hoping to create the classic classy tree, adorned in frosted baubles, bristle reindeer and thick tinsel in every shade imaginable, look no further then the Christmas shop in Liberty. On the top floor of the Regent Street department store lies a tribute to Santa’s grotto: the shelves are stacked with bespoke decorations, blown glass animals and edible wonders that may break the bank, but will have your last minute entry turning heads in this year’s tree competition.

Regent Street, London W1B 5AH

Opening hours:
15th until 23rd December – 10am-10pm

Paperchase

On the other end of the penny-saving spectrum, but still capable of producing a tree fit for the festive season, Paperchase offers a range of decorations. There are colourful origami-style baubles, spray-painted pine cones and quirky miniature decorations, from an assortment of multi-coloured puff balls to a golden burger and a silver robot to delight upon the branches. For the craft lovers among us, a trip to Paperchase will produce a colourful and creative take on Christmas this year

Locations all round London.

The Christmas Shop

A treasure trove for all things Christmas, this store is bursting at the seams with decorations, offering a smorgasbord of festive fancies ranging from tat to to the truly inspired. One can shop by colour scheme (is your tree this year red, gold or silver and white?), character (from classic snowmen to Charles Dickens and Buzz Lightyear) or material (offering wooden trains and flamingos next to blown glass coffee cups and pugs). This shop offers the weird and wonderful next to the classics and is a must for a quirky take on a Christmas tree this year.

Hay’s Galleria, Bankside, 55A Tooley Street, London SE1 2HD.
