The definitive list of X Factor judges
There have been 16 judges throughout the years on X Factor. No matter how hard he tries, Simon Cowell just can’t seem to find a winning combination for the judging panel. But, it’s been a long road full of dramatic scenes to get to series 15.
Here we present the definitive list of X Factor ever-revolving judges throughout the past 15 years, not including the guest judges as if we did, the list would be endless.
You’re probably thinking “who?” and we’re not surprised. Brian was brought in as a permanent judge back in 2007, which evidently turned out not to be too permanent after all. Brian specialises in dance and choreography, he was a little lacking in the singing judging department and a rather odd choice as a judge. Later he was reassigned to creative director between auditions and the live shows.
Brian Friedman can now be found doing what he does best – teaching at the Broadway Dance Centre.
Arguably the worst season of X Factor, back in 2015, which unfortunately included Rita Ora on the judging panel. It was back when Olly Murs and Caroline Flack were the presenters and we can all remember how that turned out…
The idea to include Rita Ora was to fill the judging panel with more ‘relevant’ names, however, she proved unpopular to viewers with her constant use of the word ‘literally’ in every sentence.
Rita Ora has since left the judges panel and returned to her work as a singer/songwriter. She later returned to the series in 2017 to perform in the live shows.
For the early part of the series during auditions, Nick was rather quiet, he didn’t speak up as much as he probably should have as a judge. Then came the finals and it seems Nick wanted to be anywhere but the judge’s panel. So, it comes to no surprise that he didn’t return the following year.
Nick Grimshaw returned to host BBC 1, however, it was announced in May this year that he just resigned his post. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
Tulisa was on the judging panel from 2011-2012, she appeared committed to her role and more than most, Little Mix who later went on to win that series and became the most successful girl band to ever win. Unfortunately, she lacked chemistry with the other judges, especially since Gary Barlow called her out for her “fag ash breath”, meant that she was never going to become a permanent fixture on the panel.
After her time on the X Factor, Tulisa took a step out of the limelight and hasn’t returned since.
Kelly was a judge for only one season in 2011, the same year that Tulisa started. Despite Kelly being liked by the public, Simon obviously felt differently as she didn’t return the following year.
Kelly has since enjoyed spending time with her husband Tim Weathespoon.
No one can deny that she gave the show the entertainment value it needed. During the auditions, at times she wouldn’t even let the contestant get through their song before yelling “NO!”. However, she did provide good chemistry with the other judges.
Mel B then went on to hosting Lip Sync Battle UK with Professor Green.
Filling big shoes, Gary Barlow was assuming the role of Simon Cowell between the years 2011-2013. In many ways, Gary was more entertaining than expected, showing off his dry wit that no one knew he possessed. However, he had a cutting side to him, not just to the contestants but to his fellow judges (poor Tulisa “fag ash breath”). Gary then left the panel once Simon returned.
Gary has since released new songs and is touring the UK with Take That in 2019!
Sharon is not someone you want to get on the wrong side of, she provided us all with great entertainment throughout the years she was a judge on the panel. She has a sharp tongue which she’s demonstrated countless times with Simon and Louis Walsh.
This year Sharon was going to come back as a guest judge instead of the panel, however, things changed… There has been speculation that Sharon was axed from the X Factor following an argument she had with Simon.
Osbourne denied these allegations in the following statement on Facebook:
Nicole Scherzinger brings the star factor to the judging panel. She judged back in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017). She demonstrated great chemistry with everyone she met and became a good solid addition to the judging panel.
Perhaps one of the nations (and our) favourite judge. We fell in love with his predictable sayings “you’re a star!” and many more.
Louis has been with the show for 13 years, and for series 15, Louis Walsh has stepped down. The 65-year old has been the longest standing judge since 2004. He had this to say “I’ve had a fantastic 13 years on the X Factor but the show needs a change and I’m ready to leave.”.
There is nothing we love more than Cheryl connecting with the contestants, she’s not afraid to be moved by their singing and cry, ruining her flawless makeup. She’s a nation’s treasure.
However, since she just recently had a son with Liam Payne (previous X Factor contestant and ex-One Direction band member) we can understand why she isn’t on the judging panel this year.
It’s been eight years since Dannii was last on the judging panel and yet we still miss her. She was honest without being mean and she had a great sense of humour. Unfortunately, she did tend to clash with Sharon Osbourne on occasion.
Dannii has steered clear of the limelight, but she appears to be happy in healthy.
Was once a guest judge, X Factor performer and has now made it on the judging panel for series 15 alongside his wife. This season has only just kicked off in September, but so far, we’ve loved every minute of Robbie Williams as a judge. He’s enthusiastic, lively and has great chemistry with all the judges.
Ayda Field has swapped her Loose Women panel for the X Factor judging panel, alongside her husband Robbie Williams, the pair have shown fantastic chemistry so far throughout the competition.
The couple have agreed not to discuss the show when they’re at home to avoid any spats.
Was once a contestant on the X Factor as part of One Direction and has now earned his place on the judging panel alongside Simon, Robbie and Ayda. Louis can offer plenty words of wisdom to the contestants as he’s been through it all before. Plus, with the judges houses just around the corner, we’re excited to see if he brings in a former One Direction bandmate as a guest judge!
Finally, the man who started it all. Simon Cowell’s Mr Nasty persona has become legendary. Whilst it’s great to hear positive comments from the other judges on your performance, it’s Simon you want to impress. His show has brought us One Direction, Little Mix, Olly Murs, JLS and even Jedward.
With this series heating up fast, why not get involved with X Factor betting and see if you can guess the next X Factor sensation.
