The top beauty looks to try this festive season

It’s no secret that Christmas will look different this year. Whether you’re celebrating with loved ones virtually or attending a smaller scaled-down version of the usual festivities, there’s still good reason to have fun with make-up and embrace one of these stunning beauty looks.
Classic red lip
Nothing says Christmas more than a striking scarlet lip. It’s the ultimate way to revamp any make-up look, so why not rock a red lip like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley this Christmas?
The NARS range of jumbo lip crayons are the ultimate matte no-fuss lip saviours. They come in a range of highly pigmented vivid shades, are long lasting and non-drying, perfect if you need to wear a mask and don’t want to ruin your make-up. Try Dragon Girl for a true red, or Red Square for a bright red with orange undertones.
For a glossier finish to your lips, try YSL’s Vernis À Lèvres lip gloss that combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wearing colour of a stain. No 46 Rouge Fusain is one festive favourite you don’t want to miss.
Disco glitter eyes
Forget the classic smokey eye, ‘tis the season for colour and glitter aplenty. Winter is the perfect time to try out brighter, richer tones like emerald, sapphire and amethyst. Follow in Hailee Steinfeld’s footsteps with this electric blue eyeshadow look for an added pop of colour.
Charlotte Tilbury’s The Icon palette comes with 12 intensely-pigmented shades, which can be used dry or wet to ramp up the intensity. The palette is further split into four looks, and the gorgeous shimmering green and blue shades make up the Disco look, perfect for any virtual parties you may be attending!
Glowy bronzed skin
Highlighter is one of our go-to staples for creating a dewy skin look that never goes out of style. Accentuate the high points of your face by applying to the tops of your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and along your cupid’s bow for a radiant look.
Bobbi Brown’s highlighting powders come in sleek, mirrored compacts making them super easy to take on the go with you. Moon Glow gives the perfect light-reflecting, champagne finish to the skin when swept across the face, along your décolletage and collarbones for an added shimmer.
For a more affordable option, try KIKO MILANO’s Radiant Touch creamy stick highlighter in Gold. The soft creamy texture is infused with jojoba oil and blends easily into the skin for a pearlescent, dewy glow.
Take inspiration from Blake Lively who stunned with bronzed and dewy skin at the world premiere of her film, The Shallows, back in 2016.
Bold metallic lids
Make a statement with your eyeshadow by swapping warm browns with beautiful golds. Huda Beauty’s Gold Obsessions palette offers a gorgeous selection of mattes and metallics to create an opulent and decadent Christmas look.
If you want something a bit more subtle, trade in your usual eyeliner for silver flicks. Urban Decay’s waterproof 24/7 glide-on eye pencil in Cuff is a beautiful metallic shade that glides onto the skin seamlessly, and stays put all day and long into the night!
At last year’s CMA Awards, Gigi Hadid wowed with her take on the hot trend. She lit up her eyes with a gold shadow across the lids and graphic cat-eye liquid liner. She kept the rest of her make-up glowy with a peachy blush and 90s-inspired nude lip.
Statement berry pout
Lily Collins stood out on the red carpet when she sported a bold berry lip at the 2019 BAFTAs. Paired with a sweep of blush on her cheeks, lashings of mascara and a sleek updo, she ensured all attention was kept firmly on her statement pout.
Matching the right shade to your skin tone is important with this look; fair skin can opt for something dark but sheer, medium tones can get away with a richer berry while dark skin works best with a deep full-bodied wine shade with red undertones.
For our take on the seductive and sultry berry lip, try Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution lipstick in the shade Festival Magic. Or for a sheerer look, NARS’ Afterglow lip balm in Wicked Ways is a great alternative.
