Wilbur and Gussie have created the perfect statement clutch

If there is one thing every girl needs it is a statement clutch, and now you need to look no further than British handbag company Wilbur and Gussie.

Since starting out in 2005, the creators behind the Wilbur and Gussie – Brett Tyne and Lucy Lyons – have achieved brilliant success with their super stylish and wonderfully eye-catching designs. After studying together in 1985 the two ladies decided to work in two completely different (yet still rather creative) industries; one worked in buying and the other was part of film production. After dabbling in such roles they reunited in 2005 to create the Wilbur and Gussie label, and you will be glad they did!

The pieces they have to offer are chic, statement designs that are somehow both timeless and on-trend; the shapes are simple but it is the prints, clasps and colour that bring edge to the bags.

Lyons and Tyne confess that they find inspiration from animals and even the brand name Wilbur and Gussie comes from the names of their pet dog and cat. You see this inspiration in the bug printed Edith bag and the Lily clutch with a gold fox clasp, a cute and quirky detail that offers an interesting twist to a simple bag.

Not only do they have creature-inspired designs but, perfect for this party season, they have a stunning range of glittering metallic clutches that would add some much-needed sparkle to any ensemble.

Whether you are a fan of the glitzy gold or shimmering silver, Wilbur and Gussie will most certainly have a bag that calls to the inner magpie in you and catches your wandering eye. They even have a few bronze and pewter pieces for a more subtle element of glamour but honestly, it’s the time to shimmer and shine so why not go all out with a dazzling silver clutch with gold detailing?

The prices vary from product to product but start at around £150 and go up to £385, be sure to check out their website if you need to add a statement party piece to your New Year’s eve outfit or perhaps a little gift for yourself to kick off 2014.
