A new tropical summer destination has appeared in the capital. With stunning views of the City and a selection of sumptuous cocktails, Santa Monica at Skylounge is set to be a popular drinking hole for people wanting to enjoy the somewhat sporadic summer weather. The pop-up is located on the 12th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel by the Tower of London, and it overlooks some impressive views of nearby landmarks, including the Tower and the Gherkin.

In contrast with its neighbour, the sleek Skylounge bar, Santa Monica is bursting with bright colours and rustic decor that aims to ensure visitors feel like they are relaxing on a Californian beach. Although this fun theme is likely to attract party-goers on sunny evenings, it does feel slightly out of place amid the classy surroundings.

That being said, the bar offers a small but excellent choice of creative cocktails and inventive bar snacks. The signature cocktail – the Santa Monica Sunset Martini – offers the perfect balance of an elegant champagne tipple with a hipster twist in the form of cotton candy. Further drinks on the menu range from the fruity and refreshing to the spicy and exhilarating.

When it comes to food, the assortment of bar snacks is equally imaginative. Santa Monica at Skylounge offers a fantastic assortment of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, all of which are unique and tasty. Savoury highlights include Salmon Maki Rolls, Roasted Cauliflower Toastadas, a Chicken Quesadilla and Kale Chips (which may look like a bowl of leaves but are incredibly flavoursome and moreish). To satisfy those with a sweet tooth, dessert dishes such as Churros with Salted Caramel and Deep-filled Doughnuts are also on offer. And you will be enjoying all of these treats at the top of an elegant hotel overlooking the bustling City streets and architecture.

With London’s rooftop drinking venues set to become all the more popular over the coming summer months, be sure to add Santa Monica to your list of hang-outs for its creative menus and striking views.
