Catford Gin Festival returns for its second year to an original 1930s Art Deco theatre

Catford Gin Festival returns for its second year to an original 1930s Art Deco theatre

This October, south London’s largest gin festival will be coming to the Broadway Theatre in Catford. Returning for its second year from Friday 5th until Sunday 7th October, the Catford Gin Festival will showcase local distilleries and welcome gin enthusiasts to join them at the grade II-listed building to enjoy a G&T – or two.

The three-day festival is hosted by the Forest Hill Gin Club – a society that organises regular events for gin-lovers who want to learn more about artisan gins and that offers a menu of over 50 gins on its website – and sponsored by Fever Tree Premium Tonic Water. 2017’s festival was held in Catford Shopping Centre but it’s back for 2018 after last year’s event proved so popular at least a couple of exhibitors had sold out by the end of the second day.

The festival will bring together over 20 distillers from across the UK, from Dulwich locals Fatty Organic Gin to Colonsay Gin from the Scottish Hebrides, as well as Hidden Curiosities, HMS Spirits, Tappers, Griffiths Brothers, Brentingby, Old Bakery, Sherlock & Sons and Catford Gin Festival’s own exclusive Tom Cat Gin.

Tickets for either an afternoon or evening session cost £25 and include a commemorative copa balon glass (as the Gin Club says, that’s the only glass a G&T should be served in), a tote bag and brochure to guide visitors through their festival journey. While displaying their wares, each individual stand will ensure that there are plenty of tasters available – including full gin and tonics.

As well as sampling this great selection of gins and meeting the people who make them, festival-goers can break up their tasting by trying food from Raastawal, Renee’s Plant Powered Kitchen, Croquette Man and other Catford Market traders, and visit the gin shop to stock up on their spirits, beers and soft drinks.

Evening sessions will be on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October from 6pm until 11pm. Afternoon sessions are on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October from 12pm until 5pm.
