How to care for your beard while traveling

How to care for your beard while traveling

Real men have an innate wanderlust. This is roughly described as an impulse to wander around, travel and explore places all over the world. If you feel the need to pack up and visit a place you either love or plan to go to for the first time, it is always a good idea to prepare well for the trip.

Apart from the usual stuff you need to bring with you, you should pay attention to your beard and make sure that it stays well-groomed, healthy and shiny along the way. Many men are not really familiar with how beards should be treated and often assume that the basic grooming and washing will do. However, it’s a thin line between looking like a gentleman and looking like a homeless person, and it’s easy to lean towards the latter if you travel and do not look after your beard in a proper manner.

Let’s take a look at how to prepare for a trip and what you should bring when it comes to your facial hair.

Preparing for a trip

First of all, you need to make sure that you have all the things that travellers usually bring when they embark on a journey. Nowadays, that includes a backpack, which is the basis for every hiking adventure. Furthermore, you should pay attention to other basic stuff such as clothes, toothbrush, sunglasses and more. However, there’s always a couple of things that one is not aware that they need for the target destination.

For example, let’s say that you decided to go hiking in India for the first time in your life. No matter how well prepared you are, there will be a couple of things in this country that you should pay attention to and make your travels hassle-free. One of the things tourists in India usually don’t know of is that it is very difficult to obtain a sim card, but that there are tips and tricks which can help you pick up your India sim card on arrival right in the airport, saving you a lot of hassle and time.

Furthermore, India can get quite dry in certain places, which is why you should always carry bottled water and keep yourself hydrated all the time, drinking at least 2l of water daily, especially if you have an active trip.

Grooming kit

When it comes to your beard, bringing a grooming kit is mandatory! It doesn’t matter whether you have a full-grown beard, whiskers, bristles, a goatee or just a five o’clock shadow, you will need to groom your beard to make it look elegant.

Brooming kits may differ in the number of items they include, but the most basic package has three things: beard oil, beard shampoo, and beard brush.

Beard shampoo

There are several types of shampoos out there that can make your beard look sharp and clean. However, most people opt for an organic beard shampoo as the most natural and healthiest type. They not only feed your facial hair with necessary ingredients but also make it look soft and glossy, adding to the shiny look and soothing the skin underneath it.

Beard oil

Many men are not sure why they would need a beard oil at all. What’s the point of applying oil to your beard? Is it for the looks or the health? The answer is both.

Beard oil will leave no hair out of place and will make your beard appear stronger and more attractive. Women overall have a much better ability to notice details than men. In other words, applying beard oil is something that will make you more attractive to the fairer sex, and you never know what to expect when travelling as you might as well find the love of your life who will fall in love with your neat beard.

Razor/trimmer

No matter how slow your beard grows, if you plan to stay in a different place in the world for more than two days, you will have to bring a razor or a trimmer. You might not be able to visit a barbershop where you go, so you will have to learn how to shave before you take off.

Washing, brushing, and oiling your beard has no effect if you fail to trim it and shave it in certain areas to make it look sharper or to emphasise your beard style. Once it is neatly shaven or trimmed, you can proceed to other activities that will make your beard look easy on the eye wherever you go.
