Why you should avoid social media while studying for your exams

Social media is one of the biggest distractions that you can face. Therefore, if you have an important exam coming your way, then it’s best to stay away from social media as it can waste your valuable time and you may not be able to study at all.

Here are the reasons why you should avoid social media while studying for your all-important exams.

It’s time-consuming

Social media can be one of the best ways to pass the time; there is always something new to discover on the internet. But it also wastes time. It’s possible to spend hours and hours browsing social media and not get bored.

However, if you have an important exam on the horizon, it is best to set strict limits on how much time you spend online, without completely abandoning it altogether.

While you are studying, keep your phone away from your desk or use the “do not disturb” setting and you will be able to focus a lot better.

Stay away from chatting

You may wish to ask your friends how their studies are going using a social media app or website. But this could lead you to spend all of your time talking to your friends online. As a result, you may not focus on your studies at all.

If you wish to ask any questions to your friends then try calling them instead of chatting with them online. When you are on a call, it’s easier to focus your conversation on the question you had for your friend, rather than getting side-tracked. As a result, you will save a lot of your time which you can then allocate to revising more.

Don’t spend time watching videos

There are quite a lot of students who learn by watching videos online. YouTube is definitely one of the best places for that.

However, on YouTube, you won’t just find educational content only, but this site is home to all sorts of videos. It’s easy to get hooked by watching something random and then forget about working altogether.

Make sure you are not getting completely distracted by Youtube videos. Of course, you can use it if it helps you to better understand a topic for your exam, but ensure that you are focusing on your studies only, then you’ll be good to go.

What steps should you take while you are studying?

  • You should keep your phone on silent mode, so you won’t hear or see any notifications.

  • You should uninstall apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and others if you do not wish to use social media at all.

  • Make a schedule for using social media. For example, after lunch, use social media for an hour, and then put your phone away and go back to studying.

  • Try to study with all your focus and do not get distracted by anything.

Follow these steps and you will be able to better focus on your studies.
