10 years after it was made, Lad: A YorkShire Story – a small-budget coming-of-age tale – is finally getting a lot of deserved attention. It tells the moving tale of a teenage boy, Tom Proctor, who forms a friendship with a park ranger in the Yorkshire Dales in the aftermath of the death of his father. It’s also based on the true story of writer/director Dan Hartley’s childhood.

We spoke to Dan about what prompted the revisiting of this relationship, choosing the cast from the local community and how the film first found an audience on YouTube.

Lad : A Yorkshire Story is available on Amazon Prime.
