“It’s about healing and hope”: An interview with Joe Mateo on animated short film Blush

Blush is the touching and lovingly imagined animated short film from Joe Mateo. It follows the journey of a horticulturist-astronaut who crash-lands on a mysterious and seemingly barren dwarf planet. When an unexpected visitor arrives, the once-lone traveller discovers the joy of building a new life from scratch in the company of someone special.

We had a chat with the writer-director who told us about the personal inspiration behind the short, how he wanted the animation to look and feel from an aesthetic perspective in order to tell his story and what he hopes the impact of Blush to be.

Blush is released on Apple TV+ on 1st October 2021.
