Italy’s BrodettoFest: Celebrating seafaring tradition through food and wine

The 21st BrodettoFest is set to satiate food enthusiasts from 1st to 4th June in the scenic Marche Riviera, with the city of Fano playing host. This annual celebration pays homage to the traditional seafaring recipes of the region, as it was revealed at a press conference held at the Italian Cultural Centre in London.

Highlights of this year’s edition include a National Soup Contest, a fierce culinary competition between regions including Lazio, Liguria, Marche, Puglia, Tuscany and Veneto. Esteemed gastronomy critics Paolo Marchi, Alberto Lupini and Luciano Pignataro form the jury for the contest, hosted by Andrea Amadei.

The festival introduces Brodetto&Wine, designed to explore exquisite food-wine pairings and Spazio Vongole, a tasting corner showcasing the delicacies of Adriatic clams. Furthermore, cooking shows from Michelin-starred chefs, including Giuseppe Mancino, Francesca Marsetti and Giorgione, will set the stage ablaze.

Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy in London, Riccardo Smimmo, underscored the importance of BrodettoFest in promoting Italy’s culinary excellences at the event’s London presentation. He echoed the sentiment of the Italian Institute of Culture’s Director, Katia Pizzi, who highlighted the festival’s significance in celebrating Italian cuisine.

Mirco Carloni, President of the XIII Agriculture Commission at the Chamber of Deputies, championed the festival’s role in bringing the tradition of brodetto to international stages. He also stressed the need to support the fishing sector amidst increasingly stringent European regulations.

Embodying the local culinary tradition, BrodettoFest also spotlights cultural and educational aspects with workshops and games designed to familiarize children with the marine ecosystem. With such a diverse array of experiences, the event encapsulates the spirit of Italian gastronomy in a rich and immersive feast.
