Fatto a Mano teams up with Franco Pepe to bring award-winning Margherita Sbagliata to the UK

Neapolitan pizza chain Fatto a Mano will join forces up with the acclaimed Master Pizzaiolo, Franco Pepe, to bring his world-renowned pizza creation, the Margherita Sbagliata, to the UK for the very first time. The partnership, running from 29th April to 2nd June, aims not just to tantalize taste buds of the pizzerias’ guests, but also to raise funds for the Italian charity La Scugnizzeria. The collaboration marks a significant moment as Franco Pepe, celebrated globally for his innovative approach to pizza-making and featured star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table: Pizza series, shares his acclaimed pizza recipe with the UK audience.

The Margherita Sbagliata, which translates to Mistaken Margherita, has been named the Best Pizza in the World from 2016 to 2018 and will be available at Fatto a Mano’s five locations in London (Covent Garden, Kings Cross), Brighton, and Hove. Priced at £16 throughout May, the pizza combines Fatto a Mano’s signature dough, proven for 24 hours to ensure a light and fluffy texture, with Franco Pepe’s unconventional take on the classic margherita topping. The occasion will see the use of ingredients from long-time Fatto a Mano’s suppliers, such as Lattai Ponticorvo, a dairy near Pepe’s renowned restaurant Pepe in Grani, for the buffalo and fior di latte mozzarella, and the Barbera family in Sicily for the extra virgin olive oil. The pizza is baked for no more than 90 seconds before being finished with Pepe’s unique riccio tomato passata (made from an anciet variety grown exclusively for Pepe in his home city of Caiazzo) and basil oil, both added post-bake to preserve their natural flavors.

Third-generation master pizzaiolo Franco Pepe, who has earned the title of World’s Best Pizza Chef at the Best Chef Awards for three consecutive years, is known for his meticulous selection of ingredients, primarily sourced from the Alto Casertano area. For each Margherita Sbagliata sold, £1.50 will be donated to La Scugnizzeria, a charity based in Scampia, Italy. The centre offers local children the chance to learn vital skills through various workshops, including the art of pizza-making.

Fatto a Mano, established in 2015 by Rupert Davidson and Dav Sahota, has grown to become a beloved chain of pizzerias in Brighton, Hove, and London. Their commitment to serving authentic Neapolitan pizza, crafted with the finest ingredients and traditional techniques, has garnered them a loyal following.
