Six by Nico launches in Oxford with a creative twist on the classic British chippy

Six by Nico, the restaurant brand celebrated for its innovative six-course tasting menus, is set to open its latest venue in Oxford, introducing the much-loved The Chippie to the city’s dining scene. Located atop the Westgate shopping centre, the new establishment will begin welcoming guests from Monday, 20th May 2024, presenting a gastronomic journey that revisits the classic British fish and chip shop experience with a modern, creative twist. This initial menu will be available to patrons until Sunday, 30th June.

Chef Nico Simeone, the visionary behind Six by Nico, drew inspiration for The Chippie from his childhood memories of his family’s fish shop in Glasgow. Since launching in 2017, the team has meticulously refined and evolved the menu to ensure an engaging dining experience that marries nostalgia with culinary innovation. Guests can look forward to reinterpretations of traditional fare, such as Chips & Cheese, made with parmesan espuma and curry oil, Scampi accompanied by a brandade and dill emulsion, and a modern twist on the Fish Supper featuring scrabster coley and beer emulsion. The offerings also includes a contemporary take on Steak Pie and Smoked Sausage, ending on a sweet note with a Deep Fried Mars Bar dessert served with chocolate pave and Irn Bru sorbet.

Priced at £50 per person and with vegetarian options available, the six-course tasting menu could also be complemented with an optional wine pairing for an additional £39 per person.

Simeone has expressed his enthusiasm about the inauguration of the brand’s latest project: “The Chippie was created having been inspired by my family traditions, growing up around my grandparents’ chip shop. The ultimate aim of the menu is to bring a sense of fun to the culinary world and a sense of Nostalgia. After announcing, we have felt such a warm welcome here in Oxford and cannot wait to finally open our doors at Westgate.”

Situated in the heart of the city, Six by Nico Oxford joins the brand’s expanding portfolio, which includes locations across the UK and Northern Ireland.
