The best ways to monitor the progression of hair loss treatment

How do you know for sure that your hair loss treatment is working? Sometimes, it can be challenging to spot the effects of progress, considering how long it can take for prescribed medication to work.

That’s why we want to explain how to check on the state of your hair to know if hair loss treatment, namely Finasteride and Minoxidil, is working with greater certainty.

Using multiple mirrors

It can be hard to check our head’s crown area to see the hair loss rate we’re experiencing. If you live alone, you’ll need to rely on a handheld mirror and a wall mirror and use double reflection to see what’s going on.

Finding the right angle to do this isn’t straightforward, but it is certainly possible with adjusting your position and a bit of practice.

The number of stray hairs

You might notice that your pillow, comb, or shower floor is collecting more hair when you’re experiencing hair loss, so one surefire way to check whether the treatment works is to inspect if fewer hairs are found in these places.

However, Minoxidil and Finasteride might cause shedding in the first few months of treatment, so it would make sense to only check for fewer strands that have fallen out after six months of application.

How does your scalp feel in the sun?

Spend some time in the sun, and you’ll surely feel the heat on your head. Once your hair starts to thin, more of your scalp will be visible and, therefore, feel more of the sun’s heat than before.

This can be a helpful way of knowing that your hair is thinning, but remember to wear a cap for prolonged periods in hot temperatures so you don’t damage your scalp or cause heatstroke.

Take photographic evidence

Keeping a record of your hair loss every month or so is advisable to see the rate of loss you’re experiencing, and the same can be said for the treatment to stop this.

Periodically taking and checking the photos, then comparing those photos against each other to see how well your hair progress is occurring. Ensure the lighting is strong enough and consistent every time you take these photos.

Trust the process

Even if you’re not noticing the effects overnight, the prescribed hair loss products are likely working as they should be. Side effects are rare, so you should stick to the correct dose consistently, and you’ll probably see the results you want over time, usually after a year of taking hair loss treatment.

Try not to skip doses, and don’t double up if you miss a dose; you should see promising results.
