James Cameron’s landmark sci-fi action classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day is returning to UK and Irish cinemas on 4ᵗʰ September to mark its 35ᵗʰ anniversary, with screenings presented in 4K, RealD 3D and other premium formats.

Originally released in 1991, Terminator 2 reunited Cameron with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who returned as the T-800 in a role that transformed the Terminator from relentless assassin to unlikely protector. Starring alongside Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick, the sequel became a critical and commercial phenomenon, winning four Academy Awards and setting a new benchmark for visual effects and blockbuster filmmaking.

The anniversary release will use STUDIOCANAL’s acclaimed 4K restoration and 3D conversion, first completed in 2017, giving audiences the chance to experience the film on the big screen once again. A new trailer and commemorative poster have also been unveiled to coincide with the announcement.

Reflecting on the re-release, Cameron said: “Terminator 2 was made for theatres, and our lovingly prepared 3D version, coming back to the big screen, is the absolute best way to see the film.” He added with characteristic humour: “I believe it’s safe to do spoilers after 35 years… the good guys win against the AI superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all could use this summer.”

Set in a future dominated by machines, the film follows Sarah Connor and her son John as they attempt to prevent Judgment Day, while a reprogrammed Terminator races to protect the future leader of the human resistance from the shape-shifting T-1000.

Widely regarded as one of the defining action films of the 1990s, Terminator 2: Judgment Day returns to UK and Irish cinemas on 4ᵗʰ September.
