Ella Purnell faces a copycat killer in first Sweetpea season two teaser
Ella Purnell is back as Rhiannon Lewis in Sweetpea, with the first teaser offering a glimpse at the increasingly complicated double life awaiting her when the darkly comic thriller returns this November.
Season two finds Rhiannon dealing with a new promotion, a rebound romance and an escalating kill list. But there is another problem: a copycat killer is now on the loose, threatening to expose her secrets and forcing Rhiannon to confront the question posed by her ex AJ – is she actually a monster?
Joining Purnell this time around is Joy star Rish Shah as new romantic interest Gabriel, while Friday Night Dinner‘s Tamsin Greig plays AJ’s mother Liv. Taj Atwal joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the Carnsham Gazette, and Heartstopper‘s Jenny Walser plays her new friend Daisy.
Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra and Alexandra Dowling are also returning for the second season.
Adapted from C J Skuse’s novel, Sweetpea first introduced Rhiannon as an overlooked wallflower harbouring a murderous side. With someone apparently following in her footsteps, the new season looks set to turn the tables on its killer protagonist, as keeping her increasingly messy life under control becomes considerably harder.
