Studiocanal launches Classics label with Terminator 2, Manhunter and Pan’s Labyrinth heading back to cinemas
Studiocanal is opening up a century of film history with the launch of Studiocanal Classics, a new worldwide label dedicated to bringing films from its extensive catalogue back to audiences.
The collection draws on a library of 18,000 titles spanning more than 100 years of cinema, with Studiocanal having invested around €25 million in restoring approximately 1,000 films in 4K. Its catalogue ranges from The Third Man and The Graduate to Apocalypse Now, Basic Instinct, Rambo, Paddington and Bridget Jones.
For cinemagoers, the launch comes with several major big-screen returns. James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day returns to cinemas from 27th August – Judgment Day itself – for its 35th anniversary, with screenings including 2D, 3D, 4DX and D-BOX.
Michael Mann’s Manhunter is also returning in a newly restored version overseen by the filmmaker. Manhunter: The Final Cut arrives in UK cinemas on 25th September, marking 40 years since the thriller was originally released.
Later this autumn, Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a new 4K restoration, while a Jacques Tati retrospective will bring a selection of the French filmmaker’s work back to cinemas. A new 4K restoration of Ernst Lubitsch’s To Be or Not to Be is also set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
The Classics label will extend beyond cinemas, with forthcoming 4K home releases including the Coen brothers’ Blood Simple Director’s Cut and Inside Llewyn Davis, alongside Accident, Chaplin and Un Flic. A David Lynch collection is also planned as part of the label’s 2027 slate.
For film fans, it means plenty more opportunities to discover – or rediscover – some familiar favourites on the big screen, with further theatrical and home entertainment releases still to be announced.
