Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore reunite for more family trouble in The Assassin season two

Keeley Hawes is back in the assassin business – and attempting to navigate the dating scene – as The Assassin prepares to return to Prime Video for a second series this November.

The thriller reunites Hawes and Freddie Highmore as mother and son Julie and Edward, whose already complicated relationship became considerably more dangerous when Edward discovered his mother’s past as a professional assassin.

Series two finds the pair back from a disastrous trip to Berlin and mysteriously estranged once again. Julie has returned to her old line of work while trying her luck at dating, while Edward’s honeymoon with Kayla, played by returning star Shalom Brune-Franklin, takes an unexpected turn. Before long, mother and son are forced back together to confront Spain’s corrupt underworld.

A new set of first-look images arrives alongside several additions to the cast. Emily in Paris actor Arnaud Binard plays Bastien, a charismatic Frenchman who crosses paths with Julie, while Harry Potter’s Natalia Tena joins as ambitious Spanish detective Inspector Cortez.

Boris Van Severen plays Titus, a Belgian man whose attempts to pursue the life he believes he deserves leave him vulnerable to manipulation. Bridgerton actor Jacqueline Boatswain joins as Isha Lockwood, while Monic Hendrickx plays Louise, whose connection to Julie and Edward stretches into their past.

Created and written by The Tourist duo Harry and Jack Williams, the six-episode second series is filming in Malta, with Hawes and Highmore also serving as executive producers.

With Julie back at work, Edward’s honeymoon derailed and a family rift to repair, their second outing looks set to make their unconventional mother-son relationship even messier.
