Gillian Anderson, music producer Danny L Harle and a 100-year-old silent film with a new live soundtrack are among the latest additions to MUBI FEST London, which takes over Hackney Picturehouse this November.

Running from 13th to 15th November, the three-day festival brings together film previews, cult classics, filmmaker conversations and live music, with events extending beyond the cinema screens.

Anderson will introduce a screening of Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, while one of the weekend’s more unusual events sees F W Murnau’s 1926 silent film Faust accompanied by a live soundtrack curated by Danny L Harle. The producer, who has worked with Charli XCX, Dua Lipa and PinkPantheress, will draw on original compositions and music from his own collection to reinterpret the film.

Other additions include the 1999 dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous, starring Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards and Brittany Murphy, and A Bigger Splash, Jack Hazan’s 1973 film about artist David Hockney. Frederick Wiseman’s documentary The Store, examining American consumer culture through a luxury department store, will also screen.

Extra screenings have been added for several films, including Rose, starring Sandra Hüller, Lukas Dhont’s First World War romance Coward and Andrew Haigh’s A Long Winter, with introductions from their filmmakers. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall also returns to the programme.

Away from the screenings, MUBI is teaming up with Crack Magazine for an opening-night party celebrating the music of Nicolas Winding Refn’s films, with DJs Richard Fearless and Ruby Quick. Visitors can also explore a dedicated film library, attend free talks, browse merchandise and take part in a cap-customisation workshop with East London streetwear brand SCRT.

With everything from classic cinema and filmmaker appearances to electronic music and late-night events, the festival offers a weekend that goes well beyond a conventional trip to the pictures.
