NYFW – Kaufmanfranco A/W 2014 collection
Simple elegance and texture were the themes of Kaufmanfranco’s autumn/winter 2014 collection. The colour palette of white, black and shades of blue felt incredibly fresh, and showcased the variety of fabrications this show had to offer. There was also a great range of pieces: everything from suits to winter coats to evening gowns.
The show began with clean white and black suits and dresses. The suit jackets fit loose and had a man-like silhouette, while the gowns were fitted throughout the top and featured angular necklines with sheer backs. After several more cocktail dresses of this design, followed a series of dresses covered in metallic beading or felting. Special guest Kelly Rowland snapped a few pictures of these on her phone, no surprise since these were absolutely gorgeous!
What was perhaps the most interesting fabrication was a fur that mimicked the look of herringbone. This was found in the next few looks; among them a coat, skirt, and a dress. The final outfits were primarily evening gowns, beginning in an indigo blue, then an ice blue, black and a white/silver metallic. A particular favourite was a ball gown covered in black pailettes, arranged to look like the dress was made of plastic. Every look wasn’t over-wrought with design, allowing the fit and textile to speak for themselves.
In a world of fast fashion, where high-end designers are constantly being replicated, Kaufmanfranco gave us a collection that can’t be duplicated by even the cleverest of companies. This show made everyone excited for the upcoming season.
