How to Be Single premiere: A chat with Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann on the red carpet

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Warner Bros Pictures’ new Romantic Comedy How to Be Single is a funny and edgy celebration of single life. Based on the book by former Sex and the City writer Liz Tuccillo it is every chick-flick fan’s dream. But unlike canonical rom-coms which we bring out at this time of year, such as Bridget Jones, the women in How to Be Single are not looking for men; instead these unmarried ladies are learning how to be single in a world filled with ever-changing definitions of love.

On this cold and wet February afternoon, we were able to speak to director Christian Ditter, Leslie Mann and Dakota Johnson at the European premiere in Leicester Square.

Robin played by Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Bachelorette) lives life according to the film’s tagline: “If you’re not having fun being single, you’re not doing it right”. She takes on the role of adviser for Dakota Johnson(Fifty Shades of Grey, A Bigger Splash)’s character Alice, who having recently separated from her college boyfriend, is single for the first time in the city. Alison Brie (Get Hard, Sleeping with Other People) and Leslie Mann (This Is 40, The Other Woman) also feature, making this a powerful female cast which takes the film away from the classic “girl meets boy and happiness follows” structure. Directed by Christian Ditter (Love, Rosie), How to Be Single is funny and light-hearted – perfect for a movie night with friends.
