There will be a Spanish plume…there won’t be a Spanish plume. The weather forecasters at this point seem to be making an active effort to cause confusion. My best guess is that it will get hot, but not too hot. Luckily, that describes the pretty-much perfect weather to get down to KERB’s new street food setup, located in the West Yard of Camden Market.

KERB has a history of pulling together a wide range of street food traders to create markets that not only allow cooks to grow and develop a wider variety for their customers, but also make London more open and accessible to diverse food options in its public spaces. And KERB Camden is their biggest project to date. A whopping 35 traders will be serving from within Camden Market seven days a week, along with three drink and cocktail bars.

There is more food than any one person could hope to try in an evening, despite my best efforts. Some standouts were: Kothu Kothu, a Sri Lankan stall selling shredded roti fried with vegetables, egg and either meat or vegetable curry – we highly recommend the mutton variation; Square Root, a brand that creates inventive, seasonal soft drinks such as pomegranate and rose; and Bian Dang, who serve up Taiwanese lunch boxes with chicken or pork, rice and, most interestingly, a tea-egg.

Truly, this only scratches the surface of what is on offer. Everything from deep fried soft-shell crab to mac ‘n’ cheese, vegan tacos to spicy squid, roti to rendang. Of course, there are plenty more traditional street food options showcased, too, with various delicious burger, hot dog and pizza stalls – in particular, Fundi Pizza definitely deserves a mention.

For anyone even remotely interested in what’s happening in the London foodscape, KERB Camden is not to be missed.
