Taoray Wang autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW

Taoray Wang autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show | NYFW

The goal of the Crossover Collection was to combine the classic pieces with a modern twist, and we can just say it was a homerun. This collection perfectly encompassed Wang Tao’s eye for construction and detailing of women’s suit wear, using these pieces to execute this idea of a woman’s power. Through her unique pairing of thick fabrics with delicate lace, she was able to combine seemingly opposing elements key to design. The collection displayed variety: from jacket-dresses to elaborate coats to sleek dresses, these looks draw in all of your senses, and the models’ fresh faces and tousled hair add to the sensual, pure nature of the modern woman.

The first set of clothes hit the runway with purpose. The dark hues of black and navy exude an effortless force. They mean business, however, even with the subtle additions of lace tops or added lace to jacket hems the intensity is not dulled. It is if anything softened to show the implementation of the beautiful construction.

White was presented in stark contrast to the black, but somehow flawlessly not interrupting the show’s flow. The detailing in the shoulder zippers, the hidden buttons, the leather piping and the intricate belts were in cohesion with the rest. Tao strung together each silhouette throughout the show by sharing similar design aesthetics such as the wide leg pants and jacket dresses.

The final selection to take the catwalk introduced heavier materials with colours such as deep aqua blue, olive green and a neutral brown. The intense velvet of the aqua blue was shown in the same medium of silhouettes; however, with the use of this fabric a new level of sex appeal was brought out as the luxurious fabric added an element of mystery.

Tao feminised the “power suit” through the somewhat hidden sensual lace touches. These women are empowered through the clothes they wear, and in feeling comfortable and powerful in their clothes, their confidence exuded on the runway.
