The Witcher season three: On the red carpet with the cast at the London premiere

The hotly anticipated third instalment of fantasy saga The Witcher lands on Netflix this week. Split into two parts, it marks the final outing for Henry Cavill as monster hunter Geralt, and shows him as committed to the role and universe of the show as ever. Upping the stakes as the threats move from being purely theoretical to tangible, the protagonist’s ability to remain detached and politically neutral are also tested, particularly in light of his newfound family with surrogate daughter Princess Ciri (Freya Allan) and the object of his love, powerful witch Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), which evokes unseen emotion and vulnerability. At a larger level dangers mount and tensions bristle at home in the wake of Yennefer’s betrayal. Viewers can expect more monsters and war, and themes of trust, destiny and family, played out amongst a multitude of characters with complex relationships on a breathtakingly epic scale.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of attending the illustrious premiere in central London and chatting with the cast (as well as glimpsing Cavill as he walked the carpet). MyAnna Buring shared what audiences can expect from the new season and from her character, Tissaia, as well as the theme of family that emerges strongly from the series this time round.

Cassie Clare was full of excitement and gave us some insight into playing Philippa Eilhart and some of the highlights of being on set.

The lovely Hugh Skinner told us how it felt to be joining the production as a new character, Prince Radovid, and what he enjoyed most about the experience.

Royce Pierreson spoke about his character, Istredd, and some of the memorable moments on-set.

The charming and hilarious Bart Edwards chatted about the developments for Emhyr, his character, and the bond he shared with Cavill through the making of the show.

Anna Shaffer also stopped to speak with us about her role as Triss and what the next chapter holds in store for her.

We heard from Jeremy Crawford about his character Yarpen and the importance of representation on screen.

Tom Canton spoke passionately about the world of The Witcher and his role as Filavandrel, King of the Elves.
