“It deals with themes that go beyond the mystery and the thriller”: Hansal Mehta on The Buckingham Murders at London Film Festival 2023

The Buckingham Murders is a crime thriller directed by Hansal Mehta and is part of a planned franchise that aims to expand the stories further. Written by Assem Arrora, Raghav Raj Kakker and Kashyap Kapoor, the film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan as Jasmine Bhamra, a female detective and mother who, after losing her own child in a shooting spree, moves to another town in Buckinghamshire where she is assigned with the case of a missing and murdered ten-year-old child.

The film takes viewers on an emotional journey of grief, determination and trauma, exploring the way in which we deal with our own personal loss and the connections we make along the way that help us navigate that path, whilst also shining a light on a small, local communities and the concept of motherhood.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Mehta during London Film Festival about making this feature, working with Khan and what he hopes viewers will take away from the story.
