MUBI sets UK release for acclaimed The Delinquents after Cannes premiere

MUBI has unveiled the UK release date for director Rodrigo Moreno’s The Delinquents, set for 22nd March 2024, as well as the film’s new trailer and artwork. The Delinquents, which stars Esteban Bigliardi and Daniel Elías, has garnered critical acclaim following its World Premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section.

Described as a fantastical reimagining of the heist genre, The Delinquents tells the story of a Buenos Aires bank employee named Morán, portrayed by Daniel Elías. He concocts a plan to escape the drudgery of his job by stealing money to fund a modest retirement before willingly serving prison time, relying on his co-worker to safeguard the loot. But when a company investigator puts the heat on Morán’s accomplice, Román, played by Esteban Bigliardi, the latter retreats to a rural hideaway. There, Román’s encounter with a mysterious woman promises to change his life forever.

With themes of freedom and existentialism woven into its narrative, the Argentine film shifts from surrealism to humour, romance and intrigue. Director Rodrigo Moreno, known for his previous work El Custodio, has crafted a film that critics have described as “utterly distinctive”, “rewarding” and a “hilarious delight”.
