The Idea of You set to close SXSW Film Festival ahead of Prime Video release

On the evening of 16th March 2024, the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas will be abuzz with the world premiere of director Michael Showalter’s latest film, The Idea of You, which is closing the SXSW Film Festival 2024 ahead of its global release on Prime Video on 2nd May 2024. The romantic drama, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, is based on the novel by Robinne Lee and has been adapted for the screen by Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt.

The Idea of You explores the unconventional romance between 40-year-old single mother Solène, played by Hathaway, and 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, portrayed by Galitzine, who is the lead singer of the world’s hottest boy band, August Moon. The story ignites at the Coachella Music Festival, where Solène unexpectedly meets Hayes while chaperoning her teenage daughter. What starts as a chance encounter quickly evolves into an intense and public romance, bringing with it the scrutiny and pressures of celebrity life.

According to Claudette Godfrey, VP of Film & TV at SXSW, “Michael Showalter has done it again. The Idea of You is a sexy, unexpected masterpiece with a fresh perspective on love, age, attraction, and the timeless nature of human connection.” The film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, Raymond Cham Jr, Viktor White, Jaiden Anthony, Dakota Adan, Perry Mattfeld, Mathilda Gianopoulos and Jordan Aaron Hall.

Produced by Cathy Schulman, Gabrielle Union, Anne Hathaway, Robinne Lee, Eric Hayes, Michael Showalter and Jordana Mollick, The Idea of You promises to be a crowd-pleaser, inviting audiences to experience a story that challenges societal norms about age and relationships.
