“The film has made me think about what he went through emotionally”: Ziggy Marley on Bob Marley: One Love

Bob Marley: One Love is the new biopic exploring and celebrating the life and legacy of Jamaican reggae artist Bob Marley. The movie, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green of King Richard and Monsters and Men fame, seeks to peel back the curtain on the man behind the revolutionary music and global icon status. Made in collaboration with the Marley family, authenticity was paramount, helped greatly by a stellar casting in Kingsley Ben-Adir as the legendary Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita Marley. Now, more than ever, his tale of triumph over adversity and inspirational message of love and peace across cultures and boundaries, resonates deeply in a divided and chaotic world.

Ahead of Bob Marley: One Love being available to rent and buy from home, we had an exclusive chat with his son Ziggy Marley. He shared why now felt like the right moment to share his father’s story and how the biopic zooms in on the famed singer’s personal life, presenting unseen aspects. He reflected on his collaboration with Green and actors like Ben-Adir, chosen for capturing Marley’s essence. He emphasised the importance of authenticity in the making of the movie, sharing insights from both his perspective and those close to his father, aiming to reveal a lesser-known side of Marley. He also addressed the film’s reception, stressing the importance of its message over critics’ opinions.
