Oro restaurant at Hotel Cipriani in Venice reopens with chef Vania Ghedini and Massimo Bottura

Oro, the Michelin-starred restaurant located within the prestigious Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, on Venice’s Giudecca Island, has officially reopened for the season. This year, the dining establishment is taking a fresh culinary path with head chef Vania Ghedini at the helm, supported by culinary director Massimo Bottura. The announcement introduces a new menu that promises to blend regional Veneto flavours with international influences, drawing from Chef Ghedini’s extensive experience and heritage.

Nestled just a short boat ride away from the iconic St. Mark’s Square, Oro offers its guests not only an exquisite dining experience but also breathtaking views of the Venetian lagoon. The restaurant’s new menu is a testament to Chef Ghedini’s journey through the culinary world, featuring dishes that pay homage to her roots in Emilia Romagna, as well as her experiences in Morocco. The Tasting Menu, priced at 250 euros per person, with an optional wine pairing available, showcases a blending of past and present.

Highlights from the menu include the ‘Moeche’ Egg Sauce with Guanciale and Squid Ink, showcasing a rare Venetian shellfish, and Seafood Tortelli inspired by Moroccan desserts and the biodiversity of the Adriatic Sea. Another standout dish, the Risotto with Nettles and Morlacco Cheese, highlights local ingredients like the semi-aged cheese from Burlina cows, a breed at risk of extinction. The à la carte menu also features dishes like Lobster Mechoui with Mussel Sauce and Guinea Fowl with Rocket and Horseradish, ending on a sweet note with Zuppa Inglese, a tribute to Massimo Bottura, and the innovative Latte 1 dessert, inspired by Ghedini’s newborn baby and his Moroccan heritage.

Chef Vania Ghedini honed her skills at the renowned ALMA culinary school and through her experiences in various prestigious kitchens, including the Alajmo Group’s establishments in Venice and Morocco. Her collaboration with Bottura, a celebrated figure in the hospitality world, marks a new chapter for Oro, promising an innovative dining experience that respects tradition while embracing global culinary trends.

Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice, continues to be a legendary destination for travellers seeking luxury and privacy, with its rich history, stunning views, and now, its reinvigorated food&drinks offering at Oro. The restaurant is open to both residents and non-resident guests for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
