Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and George MacKay lead first trailer for & Sons
Icon Film Distribution has released the first trailer for & Sons, a darkly comic family drama bringing together an acclaimed ensemble cast led by Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and George MacKay.
Directed by acclaimed Argentinian filmmaker Pablo Trapero in his English-language debut and adapted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Sarah Polley (Women Talking) from David Gilbert’s novel, the film follows world-renowned but reclusive novelist AN Dyer (Nighy), who summons his estranged sons home after becoming convinced he is nearing the end of his life. Rather than seeking reconciliation, however, he reveals a shocking secret that forces the fractured family to confront decades of resentment, jealousy and unresolved tensions.
Nighy is joined by Staunton, MacKay, Dominic West, Johnny Flynn and Noah Jupe, with the drama exploring themes of family, legacy and forgiveness through a story that blends emotional conflict with moments of dark humour.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before making its UK debut at the BFI London Film Festival. In our review, Thomas Messner praised the film’s “genuinely gobsmacking twist” at the heart of the story, which leaves the drama “charged with newfound, unpredictable energy”.
The newly released trailer offers a first look at the film’s emotionally charged ensemble performances ahead of its UK theatrical release later this summer.
The editorial unit
& Sons is released nationwide on 21st August 2026.
