Saoirse Ronan stars in first trailer for dark comedy Bad Apples

The first trailer has been released for Bad Apples, the upcoming dark comedy starring Saoirse Ronan as a primary school teacher whose increasingly desperate attempts to deal with a troubled pupil spiral wildly out of control.

Directed by Jonatan Etzler and written by Jess O’Kane, the film follows Maria (Ronan), an idealistic teacher struggling to manage one disruptive ten-year-old in her class. With her career hanging in the balance and the child’s behaviour becoming increasingly unmanageable, Maria makes a catastrophic mistake, accidentally locking the pupil inside her own home. As the rest of the class begins to thrive in the child’s absence and parents and colleagues celebrate the apparent turnaround, she finds herself trapped in an increasingly impossible situation.

Ronan is joined by newcomer Eddie Waller, alongside Interview with the Vampire star Jacob Anderson, Rakie Ayola, Robert Emms, Nia Brown and Sean Gilder.

The newly released trailer offers a first look at the film’s blend of awkward comedy and mounting tension, with Maria scrambling to keep her increasingly absurd predicament hidden as events threaten to spiral further out of control.

Bad Apples marks the latest leading role for Ronan, whose recent work has continued to showcase her range across period drama, comedy and independent cinema. The film is directed by Swedish filmmaker Etzler, whose feature debut One More Time premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, with production by Oskar Pimlott.
