Matt Johnson and Dominic Sessa take audiences inside Tony in new first look
A24 has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Tony, offering audiences a closer look at Matt Johnson’s upcoming drama inspired by the early life of celebrated chef, author and broadcaster Anthony Bourdain.
The first-look video features director Johnson alongside stars Dominic Sessa and Antonio Banderas, who discuss bringing Bourdain’s formative years to the screen ahead of the film’s UK and Irish release on 14th August.
Sessa (The Holdovers) stars as a 19-year-old Bourdain, following a pivotal summer in 1975 when he arrives in Provincetown and finds himself immersed in the demanding world of a restaurant kitchen. The experience would go on to shape the career and outlook of one of the culinary world’s most influential figures.
Alongside Sessa, the cast includes Emilia Jones, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rich Sommer, Stavros Halkias, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas.
Directed by BlackBerry filmmaker Matt Johnson, Tony explores the experiences that helped define Bourdain long before he became the acclaimed writer and television presenter known for Kitchen Confidential and Parts Unknown. The newly released featurette offers fresh footage from the film while highlighting Johnson’s approach to telling the story of one of food culture’s most influential figures.
