Sharon Horgan takes on dating, divorce and difficult family life in new HBO comedy Youth

Sharon Horgan is tackling the messy business of starting again at 50 in Youth, a new HBO comedy arriving on HBO Max this September.
Created, written and starring Horgan, the eight-part series follows Alex, a 50-year-old divorcee trying to find sex and love while caught between two very different generations demanding her attention: her ageing parents and her supposedly grown-up son.
Horgan is joined by Rupert Friend as Patrick, Sharlene Whyte as Sam, Aran Murphy as Ruari and Robbie Gee as Frank.
The series comes from Merman, the production company behind Bad Sisters and Amandaland, with Horgan also serving as an executive producer. Dawn Shadforth directs and executive produces.
The first two episodes will be released together on 21st September, with the remaining episodes arriving weekly on Mondays until the finale on 2nd November.
Putting a midlife spin on the familiar search for romance, Youth finds its comedy in Alex attempting to build a new life of her own at precisely the point when seemingly everyone in her family still needs something from her.
