It Gets Worse: On the red carpet with the cast and creatives at London Film Festival 2026

It Gets Worse is a six-part comedy series, created by and starring comedian Leo Reich. The premise follows the lives of three friends, Ethan (Leo Reich), Abi (Emily Fairn) and Sam (Olive Gray), who live together in a house share in London after graduating from University together and are navigating their chaotic lives and their plans as they face an upcoming eviction from their landlord.

The show is directed by Mounia Akl, whilst award-winning novelist Zadie Smith narrates. Guest cameos include Andrew Scott, Lena Dunham and Blake Harrison, who round out the main cast and bring the story of a relatable group of 20-something-year-olds with dysfunctional relationships to life.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to series creator Reich about where the storylines stemmed from, and how he felt they were in sync with his own experiences. He also discussed the scenes with Scott, the brilliance of the rest of the cast and his reluctance to originally appear in the series and make it seem autobiographical in any way.

The director, Mounia Akl, spoke about collaborating with Reich and what the appeal was for her. She emphasised the humour that underpins the storylines and how Reich made every character feel authentic for audiences.

Dane Williams spoke about his part in the show and what it was like working with Reich. He also touched on the relatability of the role he took on and the infectious energy on set.

We also chatted to Emily Fairn about her character Abi and her favourite standout scene. She further spoke about the improvised moments on set, including choreographing her own dance routine.
