Stephen King’s The Institute returns for season two as the fight against the sinister organisation continues
The children who escaped the Institute are far from safe as Stephen King’s supernatural thriller The Institute returns to MGM+ for a second season this November, with a new trailer offering a glimpse of what happens after their dramatic escape.
Based on King’s bestselling novel, the series follows Luke Ellis, a gifted teenager who was abducted and held in a mysterious facility alongside other children with extraordinary abilities. Following the events of season one, Luke and his friends are now determined to bring down the organisation responsible for their captivity.
But the Institute is far from finished. Its mysterious Director has recruited tech billionaire Nolan Reeves to help rebuild the operation, while former administrator Ms Sigsby, now on the run, is searching for a way back into the organisation.
Joe Freeman returns as Luke, alongside Ben Barnes as Tim Jamieson and Mary-Louise Parker as the formidable Ms Sigsby. Joining the cast is Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen as Nolan Reeves, whose involvement introduces a new threat to the young survivors.
Returning cast members also include Simone Miller as Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nicky, Arlen So as George and Robert Joy as Dr Hendricks.
The second season is directed by Jack Bender, whose previous television work includes Lost and From, with Benjamin Cavell returning as writer. King also serves as an executive producer.
While the first season centred on the children’s imprisonment and attempts to escape, the new episodes shift the story towards their efforts to dismantle the Institute itself, as those responsible begin putting the pieces back together.
