Shh! says Selfridges
Silence is what we all require sometimes: going to work in the Quiet Zone on the train, sitting in the library trying to revise or admiring art work in a museum. Have you ever thought of shopping in peace?
Selfridges are set to launch a silent shopping area early next year to take the stress out of the January sales shopping experience. Cleverly titled No Noise, this area will be in the heart of London’s hustle and bustle. Inspired by an idea from founder Harry Gordon Selfridge in 1909, tranquillity will be housed in the store’s Ultralounge.
Shoppers will be asked to leave shoes and mobile phones at the door, helping to create the most idyll of relaxing environments – which will include meditation sessions and “headspace pods”. Doesn’t it sound like a zen-like experience?
As one of London’s most popular department stores, Selfridges is always packed with excitable shoppers looking to snap up a great purchase. Selfridges’ creative director Alannah Weston describes this new attribute as the room that “invites customers to find a moment of peace in a world where we are bombarded by a cacophony of information and stimulation”.
No Noise will also feature a Quiet Shop selling de-branded products to promote considered shopping, as well as limited pieces from spring ready-to-wear collections, including labels such as Acne, Maison Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester and Jil Sander.
