Returning to the Golden Age of Travel on the S.S Atlantica

Returning to the Golden Age of Travel on the S.S Atlantica

Silk ball-gowns, sequin feather-headpieces and tuxedos were scattered across the Savoy Pier on Saturday evening as the return of the ocean liner, S.S. Atlantica, transformed the embankment of the River Thames. The dress code of the night was 30s-themed, allowing the magnificence of the liner to be reignited in true vintage style. Not a single guest failed to get into the full festivity of the occasion, making the return of the boat a brilliant success.

The luxurious entrance to the boat graced the guests with lavish seating areas, a dance floor and roulette tables creating the perfect atmosphere. A ‘first class’ cocktail menu invited guests to treat themselves with classic twists on vintage drinks and cocktails, including Champagne Coupettes, a Re-Bourne Royale made with elderflower and gin, and a delightful Raspberry Collins.

Leaving the dock at 9.30, the S.S. Atlantica set sail on a simply beautiful journey along the capital’s river. Passing all of the famous landmarks and sailing under the superb Tower Bridge, the combination of the liner’s elegance and the views of London at night made for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The upper deck of the boat revealed an open space filled with guests who were not fazed by the freezing temperatures. Complete with a champagne bar to enjoy the stunning views of London, the guests were left speechless at the sheer beauty of the vessel.

Inside, entertainment came in the form of a live band, burlesque dancers and roulette tables, much to everyone’s enjoyment. Guests danced into the early hours with a second trip of the river taking the evening all the way through to 2am. With the length of the evening, the only thing that was missing was the service of canapés.

Overall, the night was a truly outstanding tribute to the grand S.S Atlantica and offered a true reminder of the splendour of the 1930s.
