INIFD autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
Graduate students of the International Institute of Fashion Designing presented their very own individual take on contemporary Indian fashion in an array of collections that were colourful, youthful and full of potential.
Styled with fishnet tights and Adidas trainers, models walked down the runway in designs that were awash with inspiration. There was a three-piece knitted outfit that reminded us of fluorescent and psychedelic Missoni; elsewhere, a series of gowns were so dramatic they could rival Marchesa.
The dedication to Indian craft and fabrics was evident in the students’ take on embroidery and the predominant use of cotton and silk. Tribute was also paid to the Sari in a modern, emerald green cotton gown with delicate gold detailing.
The standout piece of the night was perhaps a pale rose coat made out of silk that had the Taj Mahal embroidered on the yoke and gold thread creating impressive detail.
What has to be taken away from the graduates’ collection – other than their skillful use of colour – is definitely their impressive craftsmanship, which was overwhelmingly evident on every single inch of the garments.
