Luxury swimwear made from scraps of carpet and fishing nets that the fashion pack love

Luxury swimwear made from scraps of carpet and fishing nets that the fashion pack love

Ever thought you could make swimwear from a carpet? Apart from the aesthetic issues, surely its water retention would cause buoyancy problems? However this is exactly what Diana Auria Harris has managed to do. Harris, known as innovative designer Auria on the fashion circuit, has recycled materials from various aspects of life to create her unique swimwear collection for SS13.

Auria x Margot Bowman Swimwear is London designer Auria’s debut collection. Working alongside illustrator and Margot Bowman, Auria has created a truly innovative yet chic swimwear collection. The shapes are bold and dynamic with cheeky cut-outs and retro-style high-waist bikini bottoms. Details such as clear panels and organic shapes give a mod 60s feel to pieces, whilst the high necklines of other pieces are typical of current trends.

Margot Bowman’s palette of bright and candy shades coupled with geometric designs make the swimwear hypnotically appealing. The collection is given a fun and cute feel by Bowman’s feather and arrow illustrations against an orange to lilac sunset background.

Beside the collection’s elements of luxury and style, it is underpinned by ethical elements. The pieces have all been created in a “new generation fabric” that not only aids performance but, is environmentally friendly. The material – Econyl 100% hallow polyamide – is made from recycled rubbish and other discarded products including fishing nets, voile and old carpets.
