An interview with Martyn Brown: the brains behind Anything Goes

An interview with Martyn Brown: the brains behind Anything Goes

Anything Goes is a new, innovative, upcoming brand, which specialises in selling only the chicest apparel out there. With its timeless products we can predict this brand is going to be a hit. We had the chance to interview the brains behind the brand: Martyn Brown.

What is the aim of your brand?

Martin: The aim of Anything Goes Apparel is to get my work out to people. But, primarily to produce high-quality products, which people can watch develop through our social networking pages, and get involved with when I have new ideas.

What makes your brand stand out?

I think the brand stands out because of the DIY attitude and personal level of everything I do. I like to be quite hands-on with the production of our garments and have spent hours sewing on tags for the newly released autumn/winter range. I think this engages customers and gives them involvement in the production process.

Who are your top three inspirations?

My top three inspirations would be Mike Giant (Rebel8), due to his simple and effective style, that’s so easily recognisable and absolutely timeless; Angelique Houtkamp, who creates the most beautiful and original tattoo art; and Alponse Mucha, one of the best illustrators of all time, in my opinion.

Describe your brand in three words.

Down to earth.

Where do you see the brand a year from now?

I hope to see the brand evolving even more so, through running stalls at UK festivals, gigs and trade shows, as well as developing the designs and products further to bring everyone the best I can possibly offer. It would also be great to have some stockists in other countries.

When did you decide that fashion was the road you wanted to take?

I’ve been toying with the idea of designing and running my own clothing brand for a few years, on and off. I decided to take the plunge in February 2012, and put in a print order for my first three designs, designs I was completely happy with, that I looked at and thought “I’d buy that!” It has just gone so well since, and time has flown by.

What is the specific message you want your items to put across?

I want people to see the items and instantly know that they are part of Anything Goes Apparel, and to also see that they aren’t just prints on a t-shirt, but they’re pieces of art that have sometimes had hours spent working on them.

Any message for your fashionista followers out there?

A message to the fans: thanks so much for supporting and understanding what I’m doing and also for checking out and, in some cases, buying something from the online store. Every last bit of profit (and more) from the first two ranges went into the new A/W range, so without you guys supporting the brand, Anything Goes wouldn’t exist. Thanks!
