Petit Plat: tiny versions of what you love

Petit Plat: tiny versions of what you love

Christmas is the time of year when we truly embrace food. At Petit Plat they celebrate all things food based all year round.

Stephanie is the lady behind Petit Plat. After a short Art formation she obtained a masters degree in architecture. She stumbled across her passion for miniatures in summer 2007, while searching for a new hobby to alleviate boredom. During this time she stumbled across miniatures and her childhood memories came flooding back. As a child Stephanie played with Barbies a lot and made some clay food out of regular clay for them.

“Somehow the passion grew bigger and bigger until it got my entire life. It was a struggle to finish my architecture degree but I knew I wanted to work as an artisan.” At Stephanie’s online shop you can buy anything from croissant earrings to a necklace with a plate of sushi on it.

She considers her work to be a form of art. Some of the pieces would be great for a doll’s house. The miniature Christmas dinner is very seasonal. The detail on her mini cakes is amazing; you can even see the tiny air bubbles on the sponge cakes. The raspberry heart cake would be perfect for a doll’s tea party.

What inspires Stephanie when she is creating her mini marvels? She says: “Simply put, I’m inspired by colours, be it in art (I do love colourful abstraction and I’m always happy to see Kandisnky or Delauney to name the most known artists), in food (candy store!) or just urban life and buildings. Colours are what will move me in a picture, so working on them is what drives me and makes me happy.” Her work is very colourful and her sculptures seem to be even more successful when transformed into jewellery. Her macaroon necklace and Oreo cookie necklace are adorable. It’s not very often you can show your love of food in what you wear but with a piece of Petit Plat you definitely can.
