Pure Love at XOYO

Pure Love at XOYO | Live review

Headlining at XOYO, Pure Love celebrate their first anniversary with a Valentine’s Day show. Kitting out the Shoreditch venue, XOYO with red and white balloons, Pure Love are an apt choice for the day of love.

Alongside this year’s first headline run, Pure Love release their debut album Anthems, with teaser single Beach of Diamonds already having made a strong impression. Opening with The Vestals and Turbogeist, the sold-out show rounded up a crowd of dedicated fans sporting Pure Love t-shirts.

Frontman Frank Carter (previously lead vocal with hardcore punk band Gallows) displays his musical talent in a conspicuous change of direction with Pure Love, who are decidedly alternative rock. The band hails from London and Brooklyn, with former Hope Conspiracy guitarist Jim Carroll making up the other half.

Support act, North London based band Turbogeist, previewed their new Ancient Secrets EP at XOYO, explaining: “We didn’t wanna make an ‘oi oi’ punk angst record, although that’s how we started out. We wanted to make something more tongue-in-cheek, more weird.” With the lead singer’s arm wrapped in a sling, the band played in true punk fashion.

Following the launch of Anthems on 4th February, Pure Love’s XOYO performance ran on high energy, enthusiasm and a fresh feel. Teamed with shades of punk and an excited audience, Pure Love executed a loud and proud show.
