Pop Boutique was derived from The Vintage Clothing Company Ltd, which was founded in 1983 by Richard Free. At first he only sourced and retailed original clothing from the 1940s and 1950s when vintage clothing was merely a niche business. The first Pop Boutique store opened in Manchester in 1994 and in 1995 the shop in Covent Garden, London opened. The brand Pop Boutique was created in 1997 and the clothing was styled from their vast knowledge of vintage clothing taking classic styles and giving them relevance in the current fashion market. Pop Boutique now has six stores based in Liverpool, London, Leeds, Manchester and even Gothenburg in Sweden. The Pop label is stocked in many independent shops all over Europe and Japan.
What’s great about Pop Boutique is how they have pieces that don’t look dated, even though they are considered vintage. For example this Koko dress has a sixties silhouette but a modern fashionista could wear it in so many ways. She could wear it with some studded boots and a biker jacket, with a blazer, with some tights and pumps. It’s a very versatile piece. The Breton dress is very on trend with the nautical theme this spring. It’s also available in red and navy and red and white.
Pop Boutique source all their products ethically and manufacture their items from original vintage fabrics and garments. “Recycling is very important to us and is a key part of the business.”
