Avoid the sun between the hours of 11am and 3pm, as this is when the sun is highest in the sky, with the rays at their most powerful. Let this be a time for a siesta or a spot of light reading.

You can still burn in the shade, so apply your sun protection at least 20 minutes before heading off to the beach.

Wear a wide-brimmed hat. Not only will this protect your hair from damage, but also it will protect your parting, an area easily burnt as we forget to apply cream to this tiny patch of exposed skin.
