The Great Gatsby style at Catherine Walker & Co

The Great Gatsby style at Catherine Walker & Co

Chelsea based and world renowned designer brand Catherine Walker & Co have, like many others, been giving us the option of swinging back to the 1920s in order the celebrate the recently released film of The Great Gatsby. Within the star-studded realms of their archive collection available for sale from the Catherine Walker & Co website, we’ve unearthed some scrumptious pieces perfect for Great Gatsby attire.

After WWI fashion saw a radical change, all with an air of freedom about its stitches. Corsets were discarded as old fashioned and bras were the new fad! The skirt hems rose as the waistline dropped, encouraging a new era of boyish figures. Bobbed hair and a covered forehead was accompanied by an abundance of headwear, from lavish headbands to cloche hats. And of course, let’s not forget the multitude of razzle dazzle that was rolling into the high street. Luxury and class were the Western upper class’ highest priority, post-war. Lots of pearls, diamonds and lots of sparkle.

The roaring twenties broke free from the unflattering and overly exuberant trends of the past, leaving drab colours behind whilst keeping class a subtlety. Simple yet breathable fabrics came to the forefront, with symmetrical Art Deco decoration smattering loose figures. This was the era when fashion started moving faster and with more vigour, so above all else, wear that twenties air of confidence and revolution with your chosen outfit!
